Launched back in 2018, the 15C-1 model of JCB mini excavator was launched four years after the first new generation took to the stage in 2014. Here's some background information to help you decide. The Conventional tail swing JCB 8008 mini excavator is the smallest in JCB’s range of excavators. Designed for small landscaping jobs, its compact size means it can fit through the side gates of most houses and is easy to transport from one site to another with a transport weight of around 800kgs. To help the digger fit through the smallest of gaps, the undercarriage retracts to a maximum width of just 700mm which can be extended to add stability when working to 865mm. The manufacturer understands that the operators of these machines may not always be as experienced as for larger machines. As a consequence, all hoses are protected by routing them through the boom itself. Many class the 8008 CTS as a micro-excavator, but at Plant Pages we categorise these still in the mini-excavator class. If you are working in tight spaces and need the added safety a zero tail swing mini excavator can provide, the ideal machine for operation in the UK is the JCB 8025 ZTS. When compared alongside JCB’s relevant conventional model, the 8026, the 8025 does fall short. Even though it is still powered by the same 1.5 litre 18.9kW Perkins engine, the conventional model has as much as an 82% better lift capacity than the 8025 ZTS. The machine is comfortable enough in the cab, but, again is less roomy than the conventional model. Our advice? If you have to have a zero tail swing model at an operating weight around the 2.5 to 3 tonne mark then the 8025 ZTS is for you. Launched back in 2013, the conventional tail swing 8026 CTS is still offered by JCB in their 2.5 upwards range. Sharing the same 18.9kW power plant Is sits alongside the relevant zero tail swing model, the 8025 ZTS. The compact 8026 CTS has an operating weight of 2,867kg and has as much as an 82% better lift capacity than its ZTS sibling – so if you don’t need a zero tail swing model then this conventional version is a much better buy. Despite this impressive work rate, the 8026 CTS is still able to be towed behind a standard pickup with a 3.5 tonne towing capacity. With a fully glazed and heated cabin and impressive legroom, it means that an operator can spend longer in comfort in this machine. Read More
The 3 tonne zero tail swing mini excavator from JCB, the 8030 ZTS is a true zero tail swing (as compared to a reduced swing version). With a wider undercarriage than the smaller 8025 model, the machine is powered by the Perkins 1.5 litre 20.9kW diesel engine. The machines were available as cab or canopy versions when new, so check the specifications carefully. The 8030 ZTS does not appear in the current JCB line up – operators would have to specify the smaller 8025 model or upgrade to the new generation 35Z-1 for the closest 3-tonne mini excavator. The JCB 8056 was never too popular in the UK’s used machinery market. This mini digger with an operating weight around the 5.6 tonnes mark has been replaced in the UK line up by the new generation 55Z-1 then the 56Z-2 in the current portfolio. With a fully glazed cab and usually fitted with air conditioning, the 8056 model ran until around 2017 when the new generation JCB mini diggers appeared. Read More
The JCB JS130 LC tracked excavator is the most common model in the used 13-tonne excavator market in the UK. It helps to be able to be transported by a 26-tonne, 3-axle truck, rather than relying on a low loader to get to site. There are typically more JS13 LC advertised here than any other model of JCB. At the 13-tonne operating weight, this comes as no surprise as they are as welcome on the farms as they are on the contraction sites of the UK. The 81kW engine in the latest models is the JCB EcoMAX 444 TCA. This engine is claimed to be 10% more effiecnt than the Tier 3 unit it replaced in the earlier model. JCB no longer market the JS130 - it has been replaced by the 131X LC. The fully-welded X-frame construction of the undercarriage lends long-term durability with the turret welded to both the upper and lower undercarriage frame. Read More
The JCB JS131 LC is the hire specification version of the popular JS130 LC 13-tonne tracked excavator range. This means no SCR, so no Adblue needed, no DPF, but less power than the 130 model using the same EcoMax 444 engine. As a consequence, the JS131 runs more quietly than the 130 model. This JS131 LC model sold well in the new market and therefore used examples are plentiful The model has been replaced by the new 131X (note the loss of the 'JS' in the model name). The bucket capacity ranges from 0.35 to 0.89cubic metres and an operating weight from 13,991kg to 14,288kg depending on options taken - 2.1m vs 2.5m dipper length, for example. Read More
The JCB JS145 LC is the long carriage version of the tracked excavator - there is an HD (heavy duty carriage version as well, both of these options have fully welded 'X' frame with sloping side members. Track shoe options in the JS145 LC are 500, 600 or 700mm. The tracked excavator is powered by JCB's EcoMax 444 Stage IV diesel with 81kW from its 4.4 litres and does not require the use of a DPF. Bucket capacity ranges from 0.34 to 0.85 cubic metres and operating weights from 14,511 kgs to 16,084 depending on LC or HD and the choice of boom and blade. The JS160LC was available from 2007 until around 2103 with the Isuzu 92kW engine but was upgraded with the 2012 launch of the revised version with the JCB DieselMax 444 engine with 93kW, since upgraded to the 448 stage V with 97kW. These conventional tail swing excavators with an approximate operating weight of 17.5 tonnes to 19.5 tonnes are still marketed by JCB. When specifying new, buyers of the JCB JS220 LC (Long Carriage) could choose between a monoboom or a TAB (Triple Articulated Boom). The latest model was launched in 2013 and has since been replaced by JCB's latest new generation X Series machine the 220X. Powered by a 129kW EcoMAX T4i/Stage 3B engine, the later post 2013 model saw fuel consumption improvements of some 105 compared to the earlier models. An added benefit for operators is no SCR, Adblue and DPF are needed. Operating weight is around the 22 tonnes mark with bucket capacity averaging out at 1.25 cubic metres. Read More
Launched in 2005, the JCB JZ140 was the first of the larger excavators to have the zero tail swing treatment by JCB. The JZ140's original standard spec for UK operators includes a 4.7 m monoboom, 2.5 m dipper and 700 mm triple grousers and it can use all the popular JS130 buckets and attachments. Options include a dozer blade and digging depths are 2.1m to 3m. JCB claim that there is no significant trade off in digging performance for the JZ140 vs the conventional 130 but the machine is heavier so some consideration needs to be given regarding the transport of the excavator. 2010 saw a model change to the JZ140 LC with an engine change from the Isuzu tier II to the Tier III 73kW version (4JJIX). The machine was replaced in 2014 and once again for Tier V - now using the JCB Dieselmax 448 TCA EU Stage V engine with 81kW. Read More

JCB manufactures Site Dumpers with payloads of 1 tonne, 3 tonnes, 6 tonnes, 7 tonnes and 9 tonnes - so a 1T has a payload of a tonne etc. Higher up the weight range, the site dumpers go from simple roll over protection bars (ROPS) to the option of a full cab (6T onwards).
