If you are working in tight spaces and need the added safety a zero tail swing mini excavator can provide, the ideal machine for operation in the UK is the JCB 8025 ZTS. When compared alongside JCB’s relevant conventional model, the 8026, the 8025 does fall short. Even though it is still powered by the same 1.5 litre 18.9kW Perkins engine, the conventional model has as much as an 82% better lift capacity than the 8025 ZTS. The machine is comfortable enough in the cab, but, again is less roomy than the conventional model. Our advice? If you have to have a zero tail swing model at an operating weight around the 2.5 to 3 tonne mark then the 8025 ZTS is for you. If you have more space to work then opt for the conventional model – there’s usually a better selection of them in the used market as well.
