Case crawler excavators have been around since the early 1990s when Case tied up with Japan's Sumitomo who manufactured a range from 7 to 80 tonnes. The turn of the century saw the CX range launched - the B-Series (note the 'B' at the end of the model numbering) came in 2007 with the CX-C Series arriving in 2013. When you have a range of tracked excavators as wide as Caterpillar does, it is unsurprising that their, 'small' crawler excavator range starts with an operating weight of 13.8 tonnes with the 313. This range extends to the mighty CAT 395 with an impressive operating weight of 94 tonnes and a maximum digging depth approaching ten metres. The Doosan crawler excavator range stars at an operating weight of 14.4 tonnes with the latest, 7th generation model using a 115hp version of Doosan's own diesel engine. Topping the range is the DX1000 with an operating weight of just under 100 tonnes, driven by a Perkins 2806, 629hp diesel engine. There are always plenty of Hitachi tracked excavators for sale at PlantPages. The Hitachi range of medium and large tracked has been popular in the UK for decades with a huge range on offer - from 13 tonnes operating weight to a huge 360 tonne excavator. Marketing the range under the 'Zaxis' umbrella model range, the model numbers all start with a ZX. As with other manufacturers of tracked excavators, the 'LC' appearing in the model name means that the machine has wider and longer tracks. The JCB JS130 LC tracked excavator is the most common model in the used 13-tonne excavator market in the UK. It helps to be able to be transported by a 26-tonne, 3-axle truck, rather than relying on a low loader to get to site. There are typically more JS13 LC advertised here than any other model of JCB. At the 13-tonne operating weight, this comes as no surprise as they are as welcome on the farms as they are on the contraction sites of the UK. The JCB JS131 LC is the hire specification version of the popular JS130 LC 13-tonne tracked excavator range. This means no SCR, so no Adblue needed, no DPF, but less power than the 130 model using the same EcoMax 444 engine. As a consequence, the JS131 runs more quietly than the 130 model. The JCB JS145 LC is the long carriage version of the tracked excavator - there is an HD (heavy duty carriage version as well, both of these options have fully welded 'X' frame with sloping side members. Track shoe options in the JS145 LC are 500, 600 or 700mm. The tracked excavator is powered by JCB's EcoMax 444 Stage IV diesel with 81kW from its 4.4 litres and does not require the use of a DPF. The JS160LC was available from 2007 until around 2103 with the Isuzu 92kW engine but was upgraded with the 2012 launch of the revised version with the JCB DieselMax 444 engine with 93kW, since upgraded to the 448 stage V with 97kW. These conventional tail swing excavators with an approximate operating weight of 17.5 tonnes to 19.5 tonnes are still marketed by JCB. When specifying new, buyers of the JCB JS220 LC (Long Carriage) could choose between a monoboom or a TAB (Triple Articulated Boom). The latest model was launched in 2013 and has since been replaced by JCB's latest new generation X Series machine the 220X. Powered by a 129kW EcoMAX T4i/Stage 3B engine, the later post 2013 model saw fuel consumption improvements of some 105 compared to the earlier models. Launched in 2005, the JCB JZ140 was the first of the larger excavators to have the zero tail swing treatment by JCB. The JZ140's original standard spec for UK operators includes a 4.7 m monoboom, 2.5 m dipper and 700 mm triple grousers and it can use all the popular JS130 buckets and attachments. Options include a dozer blade and digging depths are 2.1m to 3m. Launched in 2017 as the only 15-tonne class tracked excavator to meet Tier 4 final with no need for Adblue or a DPF, the JCB JZ141 was designed for rental and contracting operators. The tail swing is some 29% shorter than a conventional machine in its class.
