Case crawler excavators have been around since the early 1990s when Case tied up with Japan's Sumitomo who manufactured a range from 7 to 80 tonnes. The turn of the century saw the CX range launched - the B-Series (note the 'B' at the end of the model numbering) came in 2007 with the CX-C Series arriving in 2013. Just two years later saw Case launch the Tier 4 Final D-Series crawler excavators with Stage V reached across the CX85D, CX90D and CX350D and above models. Check out the reduced radius models for working in urban environments - these are available from 14.5 to 25.8 tonnes. these are... Read more...
When you have a range of tracked excavators as wide as Caterpillar does, it is unsurprising that their, 'small' crawler excavator range starts with an operating weight of 13.8 tonnes with the 313. This range extends to the mighty CAT 395 with an impressive operating weight of 94 tonnes and a maximum digging depth approaching ten metres. These uge machines do not play such a large role in the UK market - the most common CAT crawler excavators in the UK market weigh in at the 20-30 tonnes operating weight, like the CAT 320 or 330. If you need to work in tight areas, then check the model names... Read more...
The Doosan crawler excavator range stars at an operating weight of 14.4 tonnes with the latest, 7th generation model using a 115hp version of Doosan's own diesel engine. Topping the range is the DX1000 with an operating weight of just under 100 tonnes, driven by a Perkins 2806, 629hp diesel engine. This range extends through a wide range including standard and 'LC' versions with longer and wider undercarriages. All of the latest Doosan crawler excavator range meet stage V emissions standards - most of the range use Doosan's own engines, up to 35 tonnes, with the Scania DC09 and the Scania... Read more...
There are always plenty of Hitachi tracked excavators for sale at PlantPages. The Hitachi range of medium and large tracked has been popular in the UK for decades with a huge range on offer - from 13 tonnes operating weight to a huge 360 tonne excavator. Marketing the range under the 'Zaxis' umbrella model range, the model numbers all start with a ZX. As with other manufacturers of tracked excavators, the 'LC' appearing in the model name means that the machine has wider and longer tracks. The -6 or -7 refers to the generation of the machine (as of 2022 with is -7 for crawler excavators). Read more...

The 13-tonne JCB JS130 is a great all-round machine and has evolved over its years in production. One of the most popular in the UK at this weight range, this is why there are plenty of JS130 machines for sale at Plant Pages. Available as far back as 1991 at 12.3 tonnes and Isuzu engine, this model was upgraded in 1997 - to 13.47 tonnes, keeping an Isuzu engine but with a power lift to 70kW and then further in 2005. The JS130LC lengthened widened version is where all the action is for the later machines takes place. Read more...
The JCB JS130 LC tracked excavator is the most common model in the used 13-tonne excavator market in the UK. It helps to be able to be transported by a 26-tonne, 3-axle truck, rather than relying on a low loader to get to site. There are typically more JS13 LC advertised here than any other model of JCB. At the 13-tonne operating weight, this comes as no surprise as they are as welcome on the farms as they are on the contraction sites of the UK. The 81kW engine in the latest models is the JCB EcoMAX 444 TCA. This engine is claimed to be 10% more effiecnt than the Tier 3 unit it replaced in... Read more...
The JCB JS131 LC is the hire specification version of the popular JS130 LC 13-tonne tracked excavator range. This means no SCR, so no Adblue needed, no DPF, but less power than the 130 model using the same EcoMax 444 engine. As a consequence, the JS131 runs more quietly than the 130 model. This JS131 LC model sold well in the new market and therefore used examples are plentiful The model has been replaced by the new 131X (note the loss of the 'JS' in the model name). The bucket capacity ranges from 0.35 to 0.89cubic metres and an operating weight from 13,991kg to 14,288kg depending on options... Read more...
When specifying new, buyers of the JCB JS220 LC (Long Carriage) could choose between a monoboom or a TAB (Triple Articulated Boom). The latest model was launched in 2013 and has since been replaced by JCB's latest new generation X Series machine the 220X. Powered by a 129kW EcoMAX T4i/Stage 3B engine, the later post 2013 model saw fuel consumption improvements of some 105 compared to the earlier models. An added benefit for operators is no SCR, Adblue and DPF are needed. Operating weight is around the 22 tonnes mark with bucket capacity averaging out at 1.25 cubic metres. Read more...
Launched in 2005, the JCB JZ140 was the first of the larger excavators to have the zero tail swing treatment by JCB. The JZ140's original standard spec for UK operators includes a 4.7 m monoboom, 2.5 m dipper and 700 mm triple grousers and it can use all the popular JS130 buckets and attachments. Options include a dozer blade and digging depths are 2.1m to 3m. JCB claim that there is no significant trade off in digging performance for the JZ140 vs the conventional 130 but the machine is heavier so some consideration needs to be given regarding the transport of the excavator. 2010 saw a...
